Classification of information systems in enterprises and organizations

  Information systems can be classified according to various criteria:
1. On the scale :
  - Singles - implemented on a standalone PC and designed for a single user or group of users, sharing time per job.
  - Group - focused on the collective use of information by members of the working group and often are based on the local area network.
  - Corporate - are developing systems for workgroups, they are focused on large companies and can support geographically distributed nodes and networks.
2. According to the scope :
  - Transaction processing systems ;
  - Decision support systems ;
  - Information and referral system;
  - Office Information Systems.
3. By way of Organization:
  1. Systems based on a file server architecture.
  2. Systems based on client-server architecture.
  3. Systems based on a layered architecture.
  4. Systems based on Internet technologies.
